Department of Microbiology

The Department of Microbiology was established in July 1979. The first batch of T.Y.B.Sc was successfully graduated in April 1982. The department offers B. Sc. (6 Units), MSc -By Papers (Introduced from June 2004) and Research (Introduced from June 2005) and Ph.D. Program (Introduced from April 2010). Also, department holds ADMLT course (affiliated to MSBTE) since 2003. The department has four well equipped spacious AC laboratories with advanced instrumentation like SEM, HPLC, GC, IR, Vitek-2, Advanced Class 2 Biosafety Cabinet, etc, 2 laboratories for PG program and Research laboratory respectively, departmental staff room & a cabin for head of the department. The department has been organizing a variety of activities for the overall development of the students which includes lectures by eminent speakers, Research, seminars, workshops, group discussions, training programs for students and faculty members etc. The undergraduate and postgraduate programs offer Microbiology courses under CBCS System. 

The Microbiology department is also recognized as a Research Centre from 2010 affiliated by University of Mumbai. The department caters a research platform for many institutes such as Indian Women Scientist Association (IWSA), Sasmira, CIRCOT, BARC, Padmaja Laboratories, Vista Foods, Svizera, Maneesh Exports, Farm to Fork Solutions, ACTREC, NMMC etc. Few teachers are recognized guides for the M. Phil. and Ph. D. degrees in University of Mumbai. The Department has qualified and experienced faculty members with exquisite research enthusiasm along with interest in co-curricular activities of students apart from regular teaching process. The Department of Microbiology is supported by DST-FIST and DBT-Star College Status. The department has always added momentum in the progress of the Department and College by arranging DBT, UGC and RUSA funded science projects, science popularization activities, invited talks by prominent scientists etc. Faculty members are actively involved in framing the curricula for undergraduate and postgraduate programs under CBCS System and restructuring at the University level for both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

The Microbiology department received funding from Department of Science and  Technology (DST) under FIST grants, Department of Biotechnology (DBT) STAR STATUS and Rashtriya Uchchtar Shikshan Abhiyan (RUSA)

 Research Projects

Many research projects funded by University of Mumbai and College are completed and few have been published in approved National and International Journals. The ongoing research by students and faculty has paved a way for some new publications.
